1. INTRODUCTION

"ONE (FOOTBALL)" is a 24-hour five-a-side football match to be held on 8-9 December at The Cage starting at 7.00pm on Friday 8 December. The primary objective of this event is to raise public awareness of global poverty issues, including the extent of poverty and its root causes. We will educate the public about the Millenium Development Goals, a set of time bound targets to halve abject poverty by 2015 and eradicate it by 2025. And we will encourage charitable giving and volunteer service (time, resources,"in-kind" and financial donations), specifically to organizations tackling poverty.

In addition to raising public awareness, this event has charitable and community aspects to the programme as well:

1. ONE (SINGAPORE) will donate proceeds from the event to two charities: Mainly I Love Kids (MILK) and the Aceh Livelihood Project.

2. Participants and spectators will be encouraged to donate eyeglasses to IN FOCUS, a project that delivers spectacles to those who can not afford to buy them.

3. Blocks of playing time have been set aside for disadvantaged children and disabled players, who will compete with the suport of patrons and sponsors.

The in-house target audience consists of some 70 teams, with 5-8 players per squad, plus supporters, volunteers and members of the general public. Celebrities and dignitaries are also expected to participate in the games as well as at the opening and closing ceremonies.

3. DETAILS OF EVENTS

A football event lasting 24 hours will be held at The Cage. Each team will play in a tournament format over a period of 3 hours (not continuously!). 
 
A total maximum of 70 teams will be invited to participate in this event including: 

• Celebrity Teams
• A Parliamentary Team
• A team selected by the President of ONE (SINGAPORE)
• Children’s / Youth’s Teams 
• Ladies’ / Men’s Teams
• Teams consisting of physically disabled players

Trophies / prizes will be awarded for various activities such as: 

• Winner of each tournament 
• Correctly guessing the total number of goals scored in the 24 hours, etc 

4. PUBLICITY

• Publicity of the event commenced on 9th November with a feature segment on the “Football Crazy” show on ESPN Star Sports.


• Discussions are taking place with Class 95FM radio station to promote the event throughout November and early December.


• Suria, SPH and Channel News Asia are considering covering the event with interviews with some of the celebrities involved.


• ESPN Star Sports are also considering promoting this event and ONE (SINGAPORE) on their other channels.
