Connectors (ad hoc)
Availability: This work can be done in your own time.
Time needed: This role could take you just half an hour. We just need you to make an introduction, by email phone or in person.
Impact of role: Our main aim at ONE (SINGAPORE) is to raise awareness about the issue of poverty and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). We want to ensure we’re linked in with charities that are working towards MDGs in Singapore so that we can be the focal point for potential volunteers and also spread awareness about the GCAP movement. We also want to bring together decision makers and people with influence in all sectors of society to form a Board of Advisors who can raise the issue of poverty within their sectors and help us make change happen.
Tasks:
• Introduce us to anyone you know who:
• shares a concern for the issue of making poverty history; and
• is an influential person in the business, voluntary, community or public sectors.
• Introduce us to, or tell us about, community and voluntary organisations who are contributing towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The person we need for this role:
• Knows people like we’ve described above and is willing to connect us to them.
• Has some understanding of what the make poverty history movement is about and what the MDGs are so that you can judge whether the people you know are people we need to know.

Voluntary and Community Sector Networker (ongoing)
Availability: This work can be done in your own time, it may require you to make calls during office hours.
Time needed: This role could be done from home for 2 hours a week over two months or be done over one concentrated week of work.
Impact of role: Our main aim at ONE (SINGAPORE) is to raise awareness about the issue of poverty and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). We want to ensure we’re linked in with charities that are working towards MDGs in Singapore so that we can be the focal point for potential volunteers and also spread awareness about the GCAP movement. The people we’re looking for will:
• Be personable and confident about contacting people.
• Be able to share an enthusiasm for the work we’re doing that is infectious and inspiring.
• Have knowledge and understanding of the aims of ONE (SINGAPORE) and the wider issues around poverty and the MDGs so that you can judge which charities need to be contacted.
• Have the organisational skills that enable you to keep track of your tasks, pass information on efficiently and get back to people in a timely and professional way.
Knowledge of who the influential personalities are in this sector would be helpful but is not essential to this role.

Business Sector Networker (ongoing)

Promotion
Promotion Volunteers (ad hoc)

Time needed: This role could take between 2-6 hours.
Impact of work: ONE (SINGAPORE) is all about building awareness, the more people that know about the issues of world poverty and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) the better. In particular we want to get the message out to people who have influence over and connections to lots of other people – for example educators, youth workers and business owners.
Tasks:
• Create promotion emails and materials to publicise ONE (SINGAPORE) events, such as our Poverty Banquets, to groups identified by the exco (our executive committee).
• Contact groups who may be interested in letting us deliver Make Poverty History “Banquets”, other events or talks about the MDGs and the Make Poverty History message. For example teachers unions and The Scout Association.
• Make arrangements with Exco and other volunteers so that events can be scheduled.
The people we’re looking for will:
• Be good at speaking to new people using a professional and a friendly manner.
• Have an understanding of ONE (SINGAPORE)’s aims and purpose as well as the wider issues around world poverty and the MDGs.
• Have organisational skills that enable you to keep tack of your tasks and ensure information is passed to the exco and requests for events are followed up in a timely way.

Impact of work: ONE (SINGAPORE) is all about building awareness, the more people that know about the issues of world poverty and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) the better. Availability: Some of this work can be done in your own time. It will involve attending events and meeting in the evenings and at weekends.
Time needed: One off volunteering may be 2-4 hours of helping at an event handing out flyers and talking to potential members.
Impact of work: With more voices joined together saying ‘make poverty history’ we can have a greater impact and make change happen. We are looking to increase our membership from 500 plus to at least 10,000 in 2008. Help us make it happen.
Tasks:
• Help us come up with new ideas to promote membership to a broad range of people.
• Turn the ideas into action, by helping to create promotion materials, manning stalls at events, talking to people by phone and face to face or working with the media.
The people we’re looking for have:
• Knowledge and passion about the issue of world poverty and the MDGs. You need to be able to share the arguments and facts confidently and share your enthusiasm for making a difference. We don’t need you to know detailed information off by heart.
• Confidence, personality and a friendly open manner that people respond to well and which enables you to be persuasive.
• Organisational skills that enable you to keep track of your tasks and make sure things get done on time and to a high standard.
