Editor (ongoing)
Availability: You will need to lead Editorial team meetings on occasional weekday evenings or weekends. Otherwise this work can be done in your own time.
Time needed: This role will require at least 6 hours a week. The majority of the work will be spent on the newsletter’s production. We hope to have a fortnightly newsletter This role will require us to spend some time helping you build up knowledge and understanding of ONE (SINGAPORE), given this time investment we couldn’t afford to re-train an editor every few months. For this reason we’re looking for people who know they are able to commit to at least 6 months.
Impact of role: If our communication with members and the general public is interesting and of a high standard then they are more likely to respond positively to our message. Members are more likely to develop knowledge about the issues and share these with others, helping us do our work of raising awareness. They are also more likely to offer to volunteer and help us in doing more of our work.
Tasks:
• Manage the team of writers and reporters, agreeing assignments with them and setting deadlines. Support the team so that they feel motivated and produce great work.
• Make sure written work that we publish in newsletters and on the website is to a high standard in terms of grammar, readability, persuasiveness and factual accuracy.
• Take direction from Michael, co-founder of ONE (Singapore), to ensure all written communication reflects ONE (Singapore)’s values and mission.
• Work with Exco (our executive committee) to develop a house style so that we can have a recognisable tone and personality in our writing.
• With your team of writers and reporters, develop engaging and interesting ideas for content.

Writers and contributors (ad hoc)
Availability: This work can be done in your own time.
Time needed: We’re happy to take one off submissions, with research and writing it may take you between 4 and 10 hours to complete an article.
Impact of role: With an interesting and informative newsletter, website and campaign materials we can spread the word about ONE (SINGAPORE). Our main mission is to raise awareness about the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the global poverty crisis; this role helps us do that. The newsletters we send to members also help by making them feel part of the action and this in turn helps us get more volunteers and do more work.
Tasks:
• Report on events, people and activities in Singapore that relate to the issue of poverty.
• Research and write articles on topics that will interest our members and raise awareness of poverty and the MDGs.
• Write web copy for the ONE (SINGAPORE) site. This will include information on events, news and volunteering opportunities.
The person we’re looking for will:
• Be a competent and confident writer of English. Skills in other languages would be a bonus. You need to be able to create pieces of writing that are interesting, persuasive, easy to read and both grammatically and factually correct.
• Have research skills that help you find information, fact check your articles and maintain standards in terms of journalistic integrity. As a charitable organisation our ethical and professional standards make us credible so they must be maintained to a very high standard.
• Be able to work to deadlines. Because everyone is a volunteer and has time restraints, they may not get round to reminding you. You’ll need to be able to generate your own motivation to get work in on time.

• Create engaging, easy to read and interesting factual news articles based on what you find out. You articles will help spread the word about what’s happening, why and who’s involved. They will be published in our newsletter and on our website.

Content researchers (ongoing)
Availability: You will need to attend Editorial team meetings on occasional weekday evenings or weekends. Otherwise this work can be done in your own time.
Time needed: We need ongoing volunteers in this role who can commit 4 – 8 hours a month. We can assign tasks on a project basis so that you can mange your time effectively.
Impact of the role: By sharing articles and websites from all over the world with our members we can show that they are part of a global movement against poverty. If we can share interesting and informative articles and sites we can enthuse our members and get more of them talking to their friends, raising awareness and helping us as volunteers. ONE Heroes will also inspire people, highlighting what’s already being done in our community and how we can all make a difference.
Tasks:
• Search for interesting well-written articles and websites on relevant issues that we can signpost our members to in our newsletter and on the website.
• Help us identify ONE Heroes in the community; these are people who are make a particularly committed attempt to help work towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The person we’re looking for will:
• Have excellent research skills that enable you to find articles and websites that are on related subjects. You need to know where to find writing covering the make poverty history movement and groups who are working towards the MDGs. You’ll also need to find relevant national and international political news as well as debate on the issue of poverty, its causes and the possible solutions.
• Be able to make judgements about what other people may find relevant and interesting.
• Be able to talk to people and make links into communities so that you can find people who could become ONE Heroes. Good knowledge of the local community and voluntary scene would help you.
